Crack Slaw (also makes great cabbage roll or egg roll filling) – I’ve been making this for ages. Even before the low-carbing internet community gave it this name. I just call it hamburger stir-fry, but you can call it whatever you want.
And yep, it’s not very pretty, but it’s DAMN tasty. You must like cabbage. If not, this isn’t for you. Here’s the recipe: www.tasteaholics.com/recipes/video/easy-crack-slaw-video/
The way I’ve made it, I’ve often used just sliced cabbage, sliced onion, and then threw the ground meat into a hot, heavy-bottomed pot, breaking it up & cooking til brown, then adding soy sauce, red pepper flakes, and ground allspice (which makes it kinda taste Jamaican) to the meat, then throwing the sliced veggies on top and covering it to steam about 10-15 mins. Sometimes, I’ll throw in sugar snap peas, thinly sliced red bell pepper, shredded carrot. In this pic, I used some chili garlic sauce from Huy Fong.
This dish is meant to be kept low-carb, so keep your daily carb count in mind when adding other stuff. It tastes great over steamed brown rice, but since I’m taking my lifestyle back tot he direction of minimal carbs from veg/fruit and none from grains, I just ate mine as is. Haven’t gotten into the whole “rice” made from cauliflower just yet.

My ex-fiance was born & raised in Hawaii and his mom made something similar – so I got this from him. They called it “Hamburger poke” (poh-kee).
Yummy, I love cabbage! Sounds really good and filling. 🙂
It really is. Makes a TON. Even if I only use half a pound of meat and half a head of cabbage.
I will make fried cabbage as a side dish sometimes, it’s just cabbage, onion and a tablespoon of bacon grease. Salt and pepper it to taste, voilà!
yaaasss
I FUCKING LOVE CABBAGE
Dat soup is glorious, bright, warm-you-the-hell-up-down-to-your-bones-good. I’m so glad I found it!

G Hartman: crack slaw
Ohhh ok it’s like cabbage rolls or galumpki but a soup. Kinda.
Yep.
I’ve also made this with bok choy and napa cabbage with soy sauce and green onions, for a kinda “takeout” style stir fry.
