I’m back from the St Paul Farmers Market, and I got a lot of nice and fresh goodies. I left with a $20 bill and came home with $1.10
Here’s my haul, if you’re interested. Pics coming 🙂
– Big bunches of dill & mint for $1 each
– 4 heads of lettuce $3 (2 heads red leaf, 1 head green leaf, 1 romaine)
– Giant tray of radish (3 lbs?) for $2
– Bunch collard greens $2
– 12 heads baby bok choy $1
– Big bunch of slender early asparagus $4
There was also a couple of farms selling eggs laid yesterday for $5, a bunch of chicken and bacon, so I also got some local pork from barfivemeats.com – it was a pound of ground breakfast sausage seasoned with red chili peppers and sage for under $6.

I just put all these items in my local store’s online grocery shopping cart to pretend to buy them, and the total came to $33.40, so I know I saved a bunch…plus, the quantities of items that I bought today (except for the lettuce heads and ground pork) were triple or quadruple of those the store sells. And since I bought from all Hmong sharecroppers, I just have to wash the dirt off – they don’t use pesticides – so all of the produce is organic.
