Philly Beef & Cheese bake

Philly Beef & Cheese bake

Philly Beef & Cheese bake reminds me a bit of the sandwich, without the sandwich part!

INGREDIENTS

1 lb ground beef
1/2 a medium onion, diced
1 sweet bell pepper (any color), diced
Salt & pepper to taste
5 eggs
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon hot sauce
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup heavy cream or full fat coconut milk
(I’ve also used sour cream thinned with a little water)
1 teaspoon steak or burger seasoning/rub
4-6 slices Provolone Cheese

DIRECTIONS

Brown the ground beef and break into small pieces using a wooden spoon, stiff spatula, or wire potato masher, then add in the peppers and onions and cook until they’re tender.

Season the mixture with salt, pepper, and drain if desired, then move the meat mixture to a greased pie or cake pan at least 9″ in diameter.

In a medium sized bowl, whisk the eggs together very well with the cream, garlic powder, onion powder, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and ground steak/burger seasoning.

Pour the egg mixture over the meat in the pan. Cover the pan with foil or an oven-safe lid for the pan.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the center is no longer jiggly. Cover the top with the sliced cheese and bake uncovered, for another 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is golden brown and bubbly.

NOTES

My Philly Beef & Cheese bake recipe is in no way claiming to be authentic style Philly cheese steak, but it was inspired by that flavor combination! You may choose to use different cheeses or flavorings (i.e., Swiss instead of provolone, leave out the Worcestershire or hot sauce, etc.). Some may even choose to serve this with a little warm marinara.

Leftover Philly Beef & Cheese bake is even better! I’ve enjoyed them cold or warmed up…even put some on a keto bun!
